Your local councillors have been leading work to improve Thornton’s environment and road safety.
They secured funding from the Mayor of London for the ‘Our Streets’ initiative in which local residents have been asked their ideas to improve Thornton.
Soon we will start seeing the results of the consultation with planters, like the one pictured on Midmoor Road, being installed and maintained by charity partner Father Nature. Experience has shown that improvements like planters discourage fly-tipping, which people will know has been a problem in the area.
There will also be tree planting, traffic calming, pedestrian crossings and other measures to improve the local area which builds on the council’s massive investment in resurfacing local pavements and roads and developing cycle routes.
Local councillor and leader of the council Lib said: ‘Early next year people should start to see the improvements many asked for through the Our Streets consultation. As well as greening the ward with planting we are also making the area more pedestrian and cyclist friendly with traffic calming, new crossing, the borough-wide 20 mph zone and better cycle facilities.’
