Thornton’s elected representatives have been out in the ward together urging residents to vote Labour in the May 3 London elections.
Councillors Ed Davie, Diana Morris and Lib Peck were joined by Chuka Umunna MP and Val Shawcross AM, who is standing as deputy mayor with Ken Livingstone.
Together with campaigners they spoke to dozens of residents about how Tory Mayor Boris johnson had raised bus fares by 50% whilst successfully campaigning to reduce income tax for millionaires.
Ed Davie said: ‘It was great to get together and campaign for this vital election. Paying for a millionaire’s tax cut with pension cuts and higher prices for ordinary people just shows how out of touch the Conservatives are. By voting Labour on May 3 we have a chance to cut public transport fares saving the average Londoner £1,000 whilst restoring the educational maintenance allowance for poorer young people who want an education not the Tory dole queue.’
