Thornton residents have been well served by their London assembly member Val Shawcross and councillors are urging them to back her for a new term in May’s elections.
Val has played an active part in the ward helping to lobby for a new bus route for Thornton and supporting local events and groups from the Weir Estate fun day to the new Clapham Park Estate tenants and residents association.
Now local councillors are urging residents to support Val in her bid for re-election as London assembly member for Lambeth and Southwark and as deputy mayor.
Cllr Ed Davie said: ‘Val has been a great supporter of the people of Thornton ward and I hope everyone will now return the favour and get behind her bid for re-election.
‘I know she would make as good a deputy mayor as she has our local representative and we as local councillors will be doing our best to get her and all Labour candidates elected.
‘By raising public transport fares by 55% in his four years in office and cutting police numbers by hundreds Boris Johnson has shown how out of touch he is with ordinary Londoners. That’s why we need a Labour mayor and assembly who would cut public transport by 5% in the first year and restore police numbers to restore order to our streets.’
