Gardening enthusiasts living on Lambeth estates are encouraged to increase their pruning and planting efforts in preparation for the annual estates in bloom competition.
Local residents, tenants, and leaseholders will have the opportunity to show off the fruits of their labour when their gardening efforts are viewed by judges from the London Garden Society over the summer months.
Celebrating its eleventh year, the Estates in Bloom competition encourages local people to indulge their gardening interests for the benefit of the borough and the environment. There are seven award categories plus an overall award, giving everyone a chance to get involved and vie for a top prize.
May Horscroft, overall winner of the Estates in Bloom 2010 competition says: “I’ve spent a lot of time and effort working on my garden and I really enjoy the fruits of my labour, and look forward to entering the competition again.
She encourages other people to enter, commenting: “Apart from the nicest of people that come to see your garden (the displays) make other people happy too, so please come and join in, the more people that enter the competition, the better”.
Entry forms for the Estates in Bloom 2011 competition are available from local housing area offices, the town hall, and selected council building, and winners will be awarded a Horticultural Traders Association voucher.
