Councillors have appealed for witnesses to a fatal shooting in the ward to contact the police with any information.
Two people have been arrested in connection with the death of a man on the morning of April 14 on Plummers Road on the Clapham Park Estate.
The victim, who was in his twenties, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The killing comes just weeks after Soloman Sarfo, 34, was stabbed to death in Tilson Gardens on the same estate on February 28.
Thornton ward councillor, Diana Morris, said: “I would appeal to people in the community to speak to police if they saw or heard or anything to do with the incident. We need to get the information out that can help find out the cause of acts of violence.
“There is no reason to link the two incidents but it’s obviously very shocking to have two violent deaths in the ward in such a short space of time.”
Thornton Safer Neighbourhood Team wish to make it very clear that this is seen as a one off incident and isNOT related to gang activity, no intelligence suggests that there are likely to be any repercussions. Two people are currently in custody in relation to this incident and the investigation is on-going, conducted by highly trained Operation Trident detectives.
If residents do have any concerns a reassurance meeting will be held at the Community Resource Centre, Headlam Road SW4 between 10am and 12noon on Monday 18th April 2011. Click here for further information.
An incident room has been opened under Detective Chief Inspector Gordon Allison from Trident. Anyone with information should call the incident room on 0208 247 4554 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
